Posted Printed Postcards

Hooray! I've posted an edition of 13 screen-printed and laser cut postcards to be part of the 12th Annual University Print Society Postcard Print Exchange

The theme for this year’s exchange was “disguise”. I created my Hidden Gems postcard based on art deco jewellery. The geometric print has been laser cut and scored so that the recipient can then fold back sections to reveal a flash of coral and gold foil at the same time turning a 2D surface into 3D. A lot of measuring was required in engineering the two-sided print with the laser cut but was satisfying when it worked. My only regret was the thickness of the paper which is difficult to fold back on this scale of print. The design was drawn and developed digitally which has tested my abilities with Illustrator.

One postcard will be displayed in an exhibition at Iowa State University and 12 other participants will receive a copy also. I am looking forward to receiving a set of 12 printed postcards in exchange shortly...
